Description
Moored at Pier 86, the USS INTREPID,an Exxex-class aircraft carrier commissioned during World War II, is now open to the general public, good for a closer look at the behemoth boats used to support American might far from home shores. Also part of the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum is the Growler, a retired submarine, 30 aircraft (including the A-12 Blackbird spy plane), and a replica of the American Mercury space capsules, which harkens back to the days when the INTREPID joined NASA in recovering astronauts after ocean landings.
