America's beloved cascade, Niagara Falls, is one of the north's best-known natural landmarks, a mighty waterfall shrouded in mist and lit up by the occasional rainbow.
The Whitney Museum of American Art has as its origin a gift of fine art from Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, a facility that nearly 80 years later continues to focus on fine art - Modern art specifically - in a variety of mediums. Part of the permanent collection are works by American artists like Edward Hopper, Kiki Smith and Louise Nevelson, but these holdings are supplemented by a regularly changing range of changing exhibits, film and video screenings and educational programs.
