College town Ithaca has two higher-ed institutions to call its own, but also counts to its credit frothing waterfalls, a pleasant pedestrian mall and a clutch of cultural sights.
When architect Frank Lloyd Wright began design work on the Darwin D Martin House, he admonished its future owner to prepare himself for something incomparable to other houses in existence. The result of his efforts was a residence that bore the stamp of Lloyd Wright from its layout to its furnishings. A not-for-profit corporation, the Martin House Restoration Corporation, has taken pains to ensure that visitors on docent-led tours are treated to the house much as it was when it was first inhabited by the Martins. Out-buildings like the conservatory, carriage house and Gardener's cottage, part of the collective Prairie House-styled Martin House complex, can also be seen as part of daily tours.
