Yonkers has earned its stars historically as a major industrial city; and is the fourth largest city in New York state today and a top manufacturing center. The old description of America as a "melting pot" is reflected by Yonkers' diverse ethnic culture. It has a long history of immigrations and of immigrants who stay. In fact, unlike inhabitants of many American towns, Yonkers's workers don't commute to larger cities, but both live and work here.
The main attraction of this city is an old mansion on top of a hill that oversees the Hudson River. The ancient stone building is the Glenview Mansion, part of the Hudson River Museum. Besides the mansion itself, the museum hosts a comprehensive exhibit of Hudson River life, animal and plant, and Hudson River themed artwork fills a gallery or few. You may also want to watch a star show in the magnificent Andrus Planetarium.
Yonkers is just north of New York City, and is the southernmost point of the Hudson River Valley.
