Hyde Park is famous for the homes of wealthy former residents, including Franklin Roosevelt and the Vanderbilts.

Once the capital of New York, Kingston now sits among rugged hills like a tiny morsel of history clinging to a past that no longer fits in today's world. Dating back to 1658, the Stockade section of the village is the main come on to tourists passing through the area.

Newburgh was once a great seafaring and manufacturing center that grew rich from the Hudson River and its shipping trades. When highways replaced waterways as the main thoroughfare for trade, however, businesses busted and the city faced sudden death. Poughkeepsie has been a town in decline in recent years, but a surge of revitalization in its historic downtown district and active artistic and cultural events mean the town's glory days may not yet be over.

It was the home of Washington Irving and the topic of his tale The Legend of Sleepy Hollow; it is the final resting place of such American greats as Andrew Carnegie and William Rockefeller; and it was the capture site of conspirator Major John Andre, cohort to the traitor Benedict Arnold. Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, once known as North Tarrytown, are one of the greatest draws to tourism in the Hudson River Valley.

Yonkers has earned its stars historically as a major industrial city; and it remains today as the fourth largest city in New York state, a top manufacturing center, and home to over 200,000 people. Its population portrays the true meaning of America as a ?melting pot' with its diverse ethnic cultures derived from a long history of immigration.
